Therefore, pursuing a master’s degree is imperative to exposing me to more areas of mathematics, so I may discover a topic that I am passionate towards.

My career choice to pursue academia originates from my inner drive to give back to the world.

I was raised to think about; what I can offer my society and how I can improve the world. I pursued jobs as math tutors, nursing homes assistants, classroom

learning assistants, and advising center aids. I genuinely enjoy helping others and giving back to our society.

By extension, I believe that if I were to become a professor in mathematics, I would be able to assist an abundance of students and shape the future generation to improve the world.

In the past few years, there has been a shortage in math teachers. By obtaining my master’s

degree, I would be able to help in eliminating the shortage, thus, giving back to the society.

I believe I am prepared for graduate studies since I am highly determined to succeed.

I have been a part of several team sports. Through them, I have learned the importance practicing until standards.

In ultimate frisbee, my team would often practice until we have accomplished our task for the day, rather than practice till a set time.

By doing so, we improved as a team chemistry, and developed our individual skills. I believe I have applied this mindset toward my math courses.

Remember my real analysis course, I would study new theorems by writing them constantly until I could recite the full theorem precisely. By doing so, I overcame this

difficult course as a sophomore. If I am to be accepted, I am determined to succeed and will apply myself fully to defeating any challenge presented.

My passion for mathematics can be traced back to my first year at Cal Poly Pomona, when I took a class on the topic of proofs.

In that class, I was presented with various methods of solving proofs and beginning set theory.

The topic that piqued my interest was the class discussion surrounding proof by induction. I found it incredibly intriguing that we can state a statement is true, simply from a base and nth case.

Since then, I have developed a special fondness for learning new approaches of proving statements and the elegance of the process itself.

I wish to pursue a graduate degree so I may continue to learn additional proof methods and pass on their knowledge to others, so they too can experience the wonder I did.

My ultimate goals are to earn my Ph.D. in mathematics and pursue a career in academia.

One of the many reasons that math fascinates me is the sheer ingenuity in overcoming difficulties.

In the book, A Friendly Introduction to Number Theory, Joseph Silverman outlined a proof that reveals an infinite amount of prime numbers exists.

Silverman demonstrated a way to generate a new prime number from a finite list of prime numbers. He used this method to assert

that if a new prime number can be created from a finite list of prime numbers,then an infinite amount of prime numbers must exist.

It amazes me that a mathematician could find a way to prove a case about an infinite number of objects with finite amount of words.

It shows the brilliance of humanity, which inspires me follow their accomplishments, and hopefully, prove my own theorem.

My area of interest within mathematics is undetermined. I have been exposed to multitudes of disciplines that intrigue me.
